Welcome to the Community Engagement Blog

It is my pleasure to introduce myself to you. My name is Jean Pierre Chabot. As Senior Development Officer for the MoCreebec Eeyoud, I would like to take this opportunity to welcome you to this community engagement site. I look forward to sharing information with you as we work together to build the "social capital" required to implement the MoCreebec Constitutional Framework.

Social capital is essentially the support groups and networks that help to build strong, caring, and resilient communities. MoCreebec is a community within a community and as such we are often involved in broader networks and circles of family, friends, and activities. These broader community commitments and roles add to our strength as individuals and members of a community within a broader community.

The purpose of this blog site will be to share stories, knowledge, and information. It will also allow us to communicate our common concerns and goals for our community. This site will also allow me to communicate ideas to members of the MoCreebec community and to also build capacity and opportunities for learning and engagement. We all have the power to build and shape our traditions in a way that respects the land and our ancestors, while building a stronger tomorrow for the next generation.

Posts and comments on this blog site will be moderated by myself, Senior Development Officer. We should be mindful that social capital can only be strengthened when respect, honesty, and other virtues are fostered and developed. It is also important to have a service-oriented attitude and be willing to give more than one receives. Therefore, I will be looking for these elements in the posts and comments I review before putting them online for public viewing. Essentially, this site is for those who are interested in contributing to proactive, solutions-oriented, and positive thinking and discussions.

I realize that not everyone will find it easy to communicate through a blog site. No worries. I will not be relying exclusively on the blog site to engage and communicate with members of the community. However, there may appear some pieces of information on this site that are not available in other places or spaces. Therefore, I will rely to some extent on individual readers to take the information shared through this site and carry on the conversations and discussions off-line with family and friends.

I look forward to sharing with you over the months and years...

For now I would just like to share a famous quote [with edits]: "Ask not what your [MoCreebec community] can do for you, but what you can do for your [MoCreebec community]" (Quote by John F. Kennedy, former President of the United States). Since we are members of a community within a community, the answer to this "calling" will most likely include volunteering and/or leadership in the broader communities in which we live.

  1. Apologies to those who might have tried to post comments on this Blog Site before February 4th, 2015. There were a few outstanding issues with the correct settings for allowing anyone to submit comments. The default setting for the Blog did not allow for comments by everyone. This has been corrected and now comments can be submitted by anyone, subject to moderation by the Senior Development Officer (SDO).
